Thanks to Billy Corner. Now they don’t want you to know this, and the people that run the place currently weren’t even there when it all happened - when the work was being done.

There’s a major central London Radio Empire, that’s been operating and expanding smack bang in the centre of London since 1997. But what hardly anyone knows is, it’s situated on the site of a pre Victorian Theatre. The history of this glitteringly ghostly night spot is very sketchy. Luvvies will bore you as to what and who may have graced it’s esteemed stage, but nobody can actually be sure of the theatre’s name. The engineering feat to pass building regulations was a seriously major task. And so I got myself down into the footings (where only the diggermen go) with a portable DAT under my arm, and this is what I recorded. My research has lead me to a young beggar who commandeered this site during the reign of the “Mad King”, which must mean George III, at the end of the 18th century. His death by bleeding is registered in the parish records of 1811. He was a 17 years old lifelong veteran of the street. His name is recorded as Billy Corner, because that’s where he always did his business. This is all true. Ask Absolutely anyone!

Also thanks to Joseph Heller for choosing me to compose his sole Channel 4 series: Catch Five. As a means of getting the right mood, him and I discussed what on earth Rembrandt was on about. A priceless afternoon.
